Something to think about...

"...if a customer who could afford a blade asked that one be forged for him, the work was done only if it was apparent that the customer was capable of using the blade with the proper attitude and to the tool's full potential." Toshio Odate

Old-Timer's Knives

Bill is a friend of mine who is a most interesting man. He is a Vietnam vet and still suffers greatly from flashbacks of things he saw there. He reminds me a lot of Alexander Weygers. He drives his diesel truck on homemade fuel. His house gets water from a well that is powered by a handmade windmill using the rear end of an old pickup. He knows how to do just about anything with his hands. Here are a few knives he has made. They've all seen years of use. The handles are mesquite.

These first ones have blades made from a shovel blade.

I think this one was made from an old file.

This is the first knife he made, also from an old file.

Todd,

I like the deep bellied blades. If I ever got off my rear and actually tried to make something, I would follow that type of design.

Yeah, Mike, like you! Ha. Birds of a feather...I'll be looking to see some knives soon, Albert! I thought the brass nuts and bolts were a great idea too.
